Respect Earned: Demi Lovato

It wasn't until recently that I cared for or about Demi Lovato. Nothing personal, but I try to star clear of Disney stars. I find everything on the Disney channel annoying. Disney has a way of destroying young actors/singers. Her first album was not for me, her second had a few songs that were fun and her most recent and third...was more adult contempory and I happened to respect her music.

The girl at such a young age has had her fair share of problems. On October 30, 2010, Lovato dropped out of the Jonas Brothers Live in Concert World Tour 2010 in order to enter a treatment facility to treat physical and emotional issues. She was treated her bulimia and self-injury. She later released she was being treated for bipolar disorder. As part of her efforts to raise awareness about issues similar to her own, Lovato was announced in April 2011 as a Contributing Editor to Seventeen magazine. She will discuss her personal issues as a part of a larger campaign called "Love is Louder than the Pressure to Be Perfect", directed towards teen girls.

"One of the reasons I was so unhappy for years was because I never embraced my emotions and I was trying to stay in control," she says. "In treatment, all of the negative things I did were stripped away and I had to start processing my feelings."

"I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, 'You need to get some help.' It was an intervention. I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over," she tells Seventeen.

Personally, I'm really proud of the girl. She's obviously been through a lot. And getting help for her problems...YOU GO GIRL!
