You Can't Hold Me Down, Marie Claire & Maura Kelly!

First of all to start I would like to say....KISS MY ASS MARIE CLAIRE!

I feel like I've been slapped in the face. I recently read an article on the Marie Claire blog written by Maura Kelly leaving me totally appalled. "Should "Fatties" Get a Room? (Even on TV?)"

I used to read Marie Claire Magazine occasionally when I was a teenager. Nothing too special about it. It was a light fashion, sex and beauty based. I haven't read anything from them in years. I only was made aware of the article because of the massive uproar is the beauty community. Even the title of the article is very insensitive, just wait for the rest of the article. If Maura Kelly wanted attention and publicity she sure got it. Whether she deserves it is another question that I will answer with a big NO. But her words shocked me into gear. She was asked by her editor to write an article about if she thought people feel uncomfortable when they see overweight people making out on television?

Her editor was referring to, Mike and Molly, a new sitcom. The show centers around a couple who meet at an Over Eaters Anonymous group. She writes,...

"I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room."

You guys know me, I'm all about free speech but this is crossing the line. What is the damn difference in her writing about being an interracial couple, being anorexic, being republican or being a gay? I grew up dealing with my weight and struggling to not hate myself over it for years. While I still have self confidence issues I'm content with me. Her views or the insane people that agree with her (yes, her editors) won't change me or how I feel about myself or my happiness. I worry about younger girls who come across the article. Bullying has only gotten worse from when I was growing up and instead of supporting, caring and accepting another, we beat others down emotionally and physically. Didn't we just have purple spirit day? HELLO!

Marie Claire is part of the beauty community. A community where we share our passions for being beauty junkies, DON'T bully others and have a great support system for each other. We don't judge, criticize or degrade. Being part of that brings me joy. I can just be me...crazy, silly, creatively ME! But this is just blatant irresponsibility on Marie Claire’s part, who approved that?  I could go on and on here because believe me, I’M FURIOUS about this and my blood is boiling.

What do I get from her disgraceful article? I get that I should  take my fat self and hide. I shouldn't kiss my girlfriend in public and I better hid because I don't get put in the category of a damn human. In fact ending my life seems like the appropriate thing to do since I am so damn awful to look at. GASP! (that was sarcasm, people)

Not a chance, Maura Kelly and Marie Claire. I'm thrilled people are banning and unsubscribing to your appalling magazine.

I won't apologize for wearing bold makeup, I won't apologize for being a lesbian, And I won't apologize for being over weight. So...kiss it baby!

We Love Colors & Purple Spirit Day - in memory of the LGBT teens who commited suicide

DID YOU PARTICIPATE 10/20?

For a girl I don't own much purple...which is insane I was told. Funny thing is I own a great amount of purple makeup! I only own purple tights and a hoodie. There was NO way I would NOT wear purple yesterday.

PS Ignore my head/face in these pictures. I seem to be slightly...UCK.

October 20th was a sea of people sporting purple. Why? I don't know where it started, but it blossomed over Facebook with millions participating in wearing purple to support anti bullying and in memory of the gay teens who took their lives.

RIP
Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase, Asher Brown, Cody J. Barker, Harrison Chase Brown, Caleb Nolt, Billy Lucas, Jeanine Blanchette, and Chantal Dube.

From the Facebook event page: "It’s been decided! On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the LGBT youth who have committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes and schools. PURPLE represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality."
Celebrities have been pulling together, making videos and getting thier voice out with the "make it better project." The Make It Better Project gives youth the tools they need to make their schools better now!  Through our website and YouTube channel, youth and adults can work together to make schools safer for LGBT youth right now. Columnist Dan Savage launched “It Gets Better,” a video message in response to recent youth suicides to tell LGBT youth that life gets better after high school.  The Make It Better Project takes this one step further, giving youth the tools they need to make their lives better now.
Everyone who has been thru high school knows its not a cake walk and full of levels of bullies. But unless you are a gay teen, the level of bullying you go thru is terrible and heart breaking. And that can go past high school.

I almost forgot to tell you about my tights. I discovered this simply FANTASTIC company called "We Love Colors" They sell tights and leggings for all sizes. I was worried I wouldn't find bright tights for my costume for under $30. I did. They cost me $15 and I am thrilled with the quality and comfortable-ness. Let's just say I'll be purchasing EVERY color under the rainbow from them!

Wet and Wild: Lip Glosses

Wet n Wild was a brand I grew up on. Back in the day it was my go to brand. It was accessible, cheaply priced and approved by the parentals. Did I say "back in my day?" SHEESH! The first 2 years of college I didn't wear makeup. Being in culinary program then baking and pasties meant kitchen life. And I wasn't one of those crazy bitches who woke up at 3am to put on makeup before my 5am class. I stopped buying makeup until I found my love...Urban Decay. I went to get a tattoo with my friend, Ali, a few weeks ago. I didn't get one in the end but I did go into a drugstore and impulsively buy a good chunk of Wet n Wild products. Each lip gloss was $1.99 and while inexpensive the lip glosses are a win for me.

Nails of the Week: Hot Topic

I went to the suburbs last weekend to do a little shopping with my friend. Attempted to find wigs, which was a major fail. Either too expensive or too tacky. Buggar! Walking around the mall before we saw Resident Evil Afterlife we passed Hot Topic. Of course me who wanders in, not even realizing that we are in Hot Topic...lol. I skip the rocker tees and go straight for the accessories and makeup. I had no idea Hot Topic sold their own brand of cosmetics and nail polish. Noticing the bright, techno colors and the price of $2.99 each I quickly grabbed four of my favorite colors there. They don't have individual names (makes me sad). But the color outcome was wild.

A bright, bright neon yellow
--- I normally hate yellow (childhood reasons). But its so bright you swear it glows in the dark. Awesomeness!

A easter lilac purple
--- something different about this lavender shade. beautiful.

Christmas glitter red--- nothing special. needed 4 coats to look strong.

And deep caribbean blue--- think of being in the ocean right before it gets dark. thats how effen memorizing it is.

I'll be back for more colors!!!!!!!

High Voltage Cosmetics

This is a brand I've been aware of for more than a few months. But with my little income after being unemployeed...I was on a hiatus from buying.

During the chaos that has become my makeup station and my room :o I'm way unorganized. Bad, Rachael...I know. I don't have the names listed below. I'll be better next time. Anyhoo! Not only a great price, but the products really have strong color and durabiluty. With my class schedule, then running right to work I look for eye shadows that will past the test and not require major touch ups. Who has that time? Not me! The 3 more neutral colors are my go to for work. It's too early to show them how I REALLY am. :P And the bright lime green is my favorite. It's effen gorgeous!!! They blend really well, even the mattes. My lame camera doesn't do them justice.

Pro's
  • blends easily
  • packed to the top
  • good price for quality
  • beautiful colors
Con's
  • when opening and closing it can get a little messy

Summer...check!

It's finally October, which means the end of summer. I guess summer has been over for a little bit, but I have not been noticing. My summer was a month, the month of June actually, I spent in Brazil. Trust me I have no complaints about that. My trip was awesome and had amazing quality company. When I returned I started summer classes. Got a few "what are you nuts?" looks. But at the age of 24 (AH!) I'm ready to be done with school. Ya know? Finals ended last week and I happy to report I brought up my GPA and did really well on them. I'm turning over a new leaf and very difficult for me since I'm not a studious gal. I've been putting up some Halloween looks and have some more in the works. I hope to keep it steady and flowing. Fall classes start Wednesday :( and I'm still working part time. I guess if I was working full time and going to school full time I'd never have anytime for my blog. sad panda! ----as my friend would say.

Halloween looks coming up:
Bumble Bee
Devil
Fairy
Snooki
